20’s Plenty for the Deaf Academy

We are supporting the Deaf Academy Student Council’s recently launched campaign for reducing the speed in traffic outside their site on Douglas Avenue.

The campaign is being led by the Student Council and along with a 20mph speed limit, they are seeking pedestrian crossings to help them cross the roads to the seafront, safely. We understand that attempting to cross Douglas Avenue, at a blind spot near the corner of Rolle Road is very dangerous when you can’t hear oncoming traffic. A number of students have additional physical impairments or special educational needs alongside their deafness

Assistant principal of Care, James Heaver said:
“Douglas Avenue speed limit needs to be adjusted to reflect how the avenue is utilised now. We would like to ensure our road is in conjunction with the safety standards of other roads with schools.”
